]]> The 21st National Conference of Obesity Surgery Society of India (OSSI), OSSICON 2024, organized by the Minimally Invasive Surgery Department at VPS Lakeshore Hospital, Keyhole Clinic, Verwandeln Institute and ASI Kerala Chapter, held from February 07th to 10th at Kochi.  Dr R Padmakumar was the Organizing Chairman of the conference and welcomed the gathering.

Dr Gerhard Prager, President IFSO (International Federation of Surgeons for Obesity and Metabolic Surgery) inaugurated the event.  Dr Praveen Raj, President OSSI delivered the Presidential address. Shri S.K Abdulla, Managing Director, VPS Lakeshore Hospital offered felicitations and Dr Madhukar Pai, Organizing Secretary delivered vote of thanks.

Other Faculties included Dr Aureo De Paula, the Doyen of Metabolic Surgery (Brazil), Dr Marina Kurian, President of American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, Dr James Byrne, President of British Obesity & Metabolic Society (BOMSS).

The conference aimed to update recent advances in the field of Obesity treatment like medical management, Bariatric Surgery, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Mini Gastric Bypass, Intragastric balloon placement; so that the patients affected with obesity and associated illnesses will be highly benefitted.

The mega conference had participation of around 300 Surgeons from various parts of India and various other countries.

]]> A wonderful session of Skill Training Programme for Surgeons at Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore was conducted by Dr. R. Padmakumar and Dr. Madhukar Pai. The programme received unprecedented support by Vice Chancellor, Dean , Heads of Departments and staff. Team of 15 from Verwandeln Institute Kochi (Center for laparoscopic training) spend 4 days very productively with 33 Surgeries done in animal lab and 22 procedures in the main operation theater. Participating Surgeons from different parts of India & abroad, significantly improved their skills in various keyhole surgeries to be of great use to their patients.

Training was conducted on Endotrainers, Suturing, Knotting, Videos, Energy Source, Video Sessions, Demonstration, Updates on Mesh, Fixation devices, Hernia Surgeries (TEP, TAPP, Ventral hernia), Bariatric Surgery, Endoscopic Thyroidectomy.

]]> Dr. R. Padmakumar was unanimously elected as the new chairman by the General Body conducted on 28th April, 2019, at the annual state conference of Association of Surgeons of India Kerala Chapter (KASICON 2019) .

KASICON 2019 was conducted at MES Medical College Perinthalmanna from 26 to 28 April 2019. More than 400 Surgeons from all across Kerala participated in this Continuing Medical Education Programme.

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research is a teaching hospital and research institute located in Peelamedu, Coimbatore. It was established in 1985 as a part of PSG Group. It is the first teaching hospital in Tamil Nadu and the third teaching hospital in India to get NABH accreditation.
