Intragastric Balloon Placement is a procedure performed for treatment of Obesity and Overweight.  Obesity and Overweight has many different serious medical conditions associated like diabetes, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, snoring, Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) in women.  Obesity is common these days among children also, which can lead to health problems. 

Intragastric Balloon Placement is performed to bring down the weight of obese and overweight patients.  The balloon is finger-sized and using endoscopy is passed into the stomach with a tube.  The balloon is then inflated after it is placed in the stomach with around 60 mL of water.  The balloon helps in reducing the carving for food as the hunger hormone Ghrelin is reduced and also because there is a feeling of fullness in the stomach, thus restricting the food intake by the patient.  Weight reduction helps in improving the other medical conditions associated with obesity.
