This oval, funnel-like,  \u2018potential\u2019 orifice formed by the following structures, makes the \u2018myopectineal orifice of Fruchaud\u2019.<br>-Henry Fruchaud <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:31px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Boundaries<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Superiorly Internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles.<\/li><li>Inferiorly Superior pubic ramus.<\/li><li>Medially Rectus muscle sheath.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"229\" height=\"278\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.drrpadmakumar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/myopectineal-orifice-of-fruchaud.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1115 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 229px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 229\/278;\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"page-header wp-block-heading\">The Peritoneal Landmarks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Median Umbilical Ligament:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This ligament ascends in the median plane from the apex of the bladder to the umbilicus. It represents the obliterated allantoic duct and its lower part is the site of the rare urachal cyst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Medial Umbilical Ligament<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This ligament represents the  obliterated umbilical artery on each side and can be traced down to the internal iliac artery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lateral Umbilical Ligament<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the ridge of peritoneum,  which is raised by the inferior epigastric vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These ligaments delineate the infraumbilical fossae<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"222\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.drrpadmakumar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/infraumbilical-ligaments.jpg\" alt=\"The Infraumbilical ligaments\" class=\"wp-image-1116 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/222;\" \/><figcaption>The infraumbilical ligaments<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"page-header wp-block-heading\">The Infraumbilical Fossae<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These fossae are important for surgeons-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Delineate the sites of groin herniation.<\/li><li>An important landmark for orientation during hernia repairs.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Supravesical fossae:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The infraumbilical area between the median and medial umbilical<br> ligaments. This is the site for the origin of the supravesical hernia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Medial Umbilical fossae<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The infraumbilical  area between the medial and lateral umbilical<br> ligaments. This is the site for the origin of the femoral and direct inguinal hernia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lateral Umbilical fossae<\/strong>:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The infraumbilical  area lateral to the lateral umbilical ligament. It is intimately associated with the inguinal ligament. It is anterior to the Cooper\u2019s ligament and posterior to the inguinal ligament. The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Iliopubic_tract\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"iliopubic tract (opens in a new tab)\">iliopubic tract<\/a> separates the internal ring from the femoral canal.
