With the introduction of the laparoscope into the abdomen, five important landmarks can be identified in the infra-umbilical region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Inferior epigastric vessels<\/li>
  2. Medial umbilical ligament<\/li>
  3. Spermatic vessels<\/li>
  4. Vas deferens<\/li>
  5. Trapezoid of disaster<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    <\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Inferior epigastric vessels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The inferior epigastric artery is prominently visualized during laparoscopic preperitoneal dissection of groin hernia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. It forms the lateral border of the Hesselbach\u2019s triangle.<\/li>
    2. It demarcates between direct and indirect inguinal hernia.<\/li>
    3. It leads us to iliac vessels and apex of triangle of doom.<\/li>
    4. Bleeding due to its injury can occur during dissection.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Medial umbilical ligament<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Urinary bladder lies medial to the medial umbilical ligament<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Spermatic vessels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      It forms the lateral border of the \u2018triangle of doom\u2019 and the medial
      border of the \u2018triangle of pain\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Vas deferens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Forms the medial border of the \u2018triangle of doom\u2019 and \u2018quadrangle
      of disaster\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \u2018Trapezoid of Disaster\u2019 (Labeled by Seid)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Lying beneath the peritoneum and transversalis fascia are the external iliac artery and vein and nerves- triangle of pain + triangle of doom<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Dissection should be done with care in this area. No tacks should be placed in this area.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
